Currency & Cash 💵 – The official currency is the Nicaraguan Córdoba (NIO), but U.S. dollars are widely accepted. ATMs are available in major cities, but carrying cash is recommended for rural areas.
Transportation 🚍 – Public transport is affordable but can be unpredictable. Chicken buses (converted U.S. school buses) are the most common local transport, while private shuttles or taxis are better for comfort and reliability.
Safety & Awareness ⚠️ – Nicaragua is generally safe for travelers, but it’s best to stay aware of your surroundings, especially in big cities. Avoid flashing valuables and use reputable transportation services at night.
Weather & Packing ☀️ – Nicaragua has a tropical climate with a dry season (November–April) and a wet season (May–October). Pack light, breathable clothing, sunscreen, and a rain jacket if traveling during the rainy months.
Language & Communication 🗣️ – Spanish is the official language, and while some locals speak English in tourist areas, learning a few basic Spanish phrases will go a long way in making your travels smoother.
