Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro 🇧🇷

My week in Rio de Janeiro was truly spectacular and frankly not long enough. Since most us don’t have unlimited time I have condensed all the best things to do In Rio if you have 7 days.

From the iconic Christ the Redeemer to the golden shores of Copacabana and Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro is a city bursting with energy, culture, and natural beauty. Hike to breathtaking viewpoints, dance to the rhythm of samba, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere of Lapa’s nightlife. Whether you're chasing adventure, relaxation, or the world-famous Carnaval, Rio offers an unforgettable experience at every turn.

Here are some useful tips and facts before we get into the activities.

  1. Safety & Awareness 🔒

Stick to tourist-friendly areas and avoid wandering alone at night.

Use Uber or official taxis instead of public buses for safety.

Keep valuables minimal - use a money belt or crossbody bag in crowded areas.

  2. Best Time to Visit 🌤️

December–March: Summer, hot & lively (great for Carnaval 🎭).

    April–June & September–November: Fewer crowds, milder weather.

July–August: Cooler but still warm, great for outdoor activities.

  3. Getting Around 🚖

    Uber is safe and affordable.

Metro is efficient for main tourist spots.

Avoid buses at night for safety reasons

  4. Currency & Payments 💵

    Brazil uses Brazilian Real (BRL).

Credit/debit cards are widely accepted, but carry some cash for small vendors.

  5. Must-Try Foods & Drinks 🍽️🍹

Feijoada – Brazil’s famous black bean stew.

Pão de queijo – Cheesy bread snack.

Açaí bowls – Refreshing and delicious.

Caipirinha – Brazil’s signature cocktail made with cachaça.

  6. Beach Etiquette 🏖️

Don’t leave belongings unattended—use beach kiosks with lockers.

Order from barracas (beach stalls) for snacks & drinks.

Beach chairs & umbrellas are cheap to rent (~R$10-20).

  7. Language & Communication 🗣️

Portuguese is the official language - Some basic phrases Include

    1. "Obrigado/a" (Thank you)

    2. "Por favor" (Please)

    3. "Quanto custa?" (How much does it cost?)

Many locals don’t speak English, so translation apps help!
